RAVAIDLI

Hi Everyone,
As I told you earlier Iam always little lazy to make chapatis for dinner and breakfast so I always look into other options in making breakfast and dinner.Mostly I will always have Idli , dosa batter in hand but sometimes I will get struck without batter in such cases I will go for pasta , rava idlis , rice hoopers etc..
The main purpose of Sooji is Sooji upma but here in my home no one likes upma so other than upma I make everything with sooji right from ravaladoo , kesari , rava kozhukattai , Ravaidli  etc etc….
This ravaidli is a main dish which you can make in 25 mins , the taste is awesome when compared to upma.I  make this dish mostly for breakfast as it is so easy and easy to digest too,Also as you are adding vegges and boiling in cooker it is healthy too.
Try it in home and you will also admit what I say,

SERVINGS : YIELDS ABOUT 15 IDLIS

INGREDIENTS :
Rava / Sooji – 1 cup
Thick Curd – ½ cup
Salt – as required
Oil – 3 tsp
Carrot ( grated ) – 1 medium sized
Channa dal – 1 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a sprig
Coriander leaves – a bunch
Green chillies – 2 nos
Onion ( optional )  -1 no  (I didn’t add)
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Water  - as required
Cooking soda – 1/8 tsp
Mustard – ¼ tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch

PREPARATION :
1) Soak channa dal in water for 10 mins.
2) Grate carrot , chop green chillies and onions ( if using) , chop coriander leaves and curry leaves too.
3) Heat oil in a wide kadai followed by mustard , green chillies, soaked channa dal , urad dal , Curry leaves and saute till they turn to golden brown.
4) When done add grated carrot, turmeric powder and fry till the raw smell leaves and the carrot turns to pale colour.

5) Now add Sooji and fry in low flame till aroma comes.Dont over fry the sooji to avoid rava burning to bottom.
6) When everything is fried remove from flame and let it cool to room temperature.
7) When cooled add curd , salt ,coriander leaves and mix well , add water little by little to bring the rava mixture to idli batter consistency. Finally add cooking soda and mix well.

8) In your idli pan pour each hole with a laddle full of batter and boil for 15 mins in medium flame.
9) After 15 mins insert a knife in the middle of idli to make sure the knife comes out clean.

10)   When the idlis are boiled ,remove from flame and serve hot with any sidedish of your choice.

NOTES :
1) Use thick curd to get yummy soft idlis.
2) Be careful in adding water  , too much of water will spoil idli's texture.
3) Adding carrot is optional but I insist to add it to get nice aroma and also it eliminates rava smell.
4) Don’t boil more tham 15 mins , too much of boiling makes idlis dry and also harder.
5) After adding cooking soda , pour immediately to idli plates , don’t keep the batter for long time after adding cooking soda.
6) You can even add cashews but I skipped due to fat .

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
