BESAN CHILLA / KADALAIMAAVU DOSA

Hi All,
BESAN CHILLA / KADALAIMAAVU DOSA! I never buy besan flour because somehow we don't like the smell of besan. But now as I was running out of breakfast ideas I brought besan flour to try something with it and came this besan chilla.
Chilla was so easy to make and very filling too. You can make many variations with your favorite vegs too.
The simple, delicious, quick breakfast besan chilla recipe is as below,
COOKING TIME : 1 HOUR
YIELDS : 10 CHILLAS.

INGREDIENTS :
Besan flour – 1 1/2 cup.
Salt – 1 tsp or as required.
Chilli powder – 1 1/2 tsp
Omam / Ajwain seeds- 1 tsp
Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Onion – 1 no
Tomato – 1 no
Carrot – 1 medium sized ( You can add any vegs of your choice)
Oil – few tsps.

METHOD:
  1. Chop onions, tomato to very small pieces. Grate carrot finely.
  2. In a bowl add besan flour, salt, asafoetida, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ajwain, enough water and mix well to form dosa batter consistency. It must be like flowing consistency.
  3. Close the bowl and let it sit for 30 mins.
  4. After 30 mins add the chopped vegs, mix.
  5. Heat dosa tawa, spread 1 drop of oil evenly over the tawa.
  6. Pour a ladle full of batter on hot tawa and spread gently. Due to vegs you cannot make thin dosa, you will get adai texture.
  7. Sprinkle few drops of oil and let the chilla boil in low flame for 5 mins.
  8. When edges turn brown, flip the chilla to next side and let it boil for 3 more mins in medium flame.
  9. When done remove from tawa , serve hot with your favorite sidedish.
  10. I served with onion chutney, you can serve with coriander chutney , mint chutney or any chutney of your choice.

    HAPPY COOKING!!

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
