COCONUT THUVAYAL

Hi All,
I made this coconut thuvayal along with Briyani / Nonbu kanji. This thuvayal tastes best with any dish like rice, idli, dosa, chapati and bread too.
Since it is very easy recipe , I missed to take step by step pictures. Next time while making i will click step by step pictures and update you.
In in order to help you while making kanji , i posted the recipe too.
The main flavour of this thuvayal lies in the consistency. The thuvayal must be thick and must be little coarse. Also use fresh coconut which is best for thuvayal.

Here is the simple recipe,

INGREDIENTS :
Coconut – 1/2 cup ( grated).
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Channa dal – 1 tsp
Dry red chillies – 2 nos.
Tamarind – 1” piece – 1
Salt – for taste
Asafoetida – 1 pinch.
Coconut oil – 1 tsp.

METHOD :
1) Heat coconut oil, add urad dal, channa dal, red chilles and saute in low flame till golden brown.
2) Switch off the flame, add coconut, tamarind, asafoetida, salt and mix well.
3) Once cooled grind to thick coarse paste with little water.
4) Empty to dry container and serve with your favourite main dish.
 NOTES :
1) Again repeating – the thuvayal must be coarse, thick paste.
        2) Tamarind and chillies are flavour enhancers here so   don’t reduce it.
HAPPY COOKING!!

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
