தமிழில் காண : கிளிக்

Hi All,
CHANNA DAL CHUTNEY!! When your pantry runs out of vegs and also no coconut in your house to make chutney , this chutney will help you like heaven.
Last week I saw only half tomato and few garlic in my pantry ,So I made this channa dal chutney.
With very basic ingredients , the chutney tasted amazing and very filling.
The recipe is so simple and here below for you ,

INGREDIENTS :
Channa dal / Kadalai parupu – 2 tsp.
Urad dal / Ulunthu parupu – 1 tsp.
Tomato –1/2 of big tomato.
Garlic – 4 pods.
Dry red chillies – 2 nos.
Salt – as required.
Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp.
Coconut – 2 tsp ( optional , I didn't add ) .
Gingelly oil – 1 tsp.

TO SAUTE :
Gingelly oil – 1 tsp.
Mustard – 1/8 tsp.
Curry leaves – few.
Urad dal – 1/2 tsp.
Dry red chillies – 1 no.

PREPARATION :
  1. Heat oil in pan and add channa dal , urad dal , dry red chillies , garlic and saute in low flame till dal turns golden brown .
  2. Finally add asafoetida and remove from flame , empty the contents in a plate .
  3. In the same pan add chopped tomatoes and saute till mushy .
  4. In your blender grind the dal mixture first to coarse bits and then add tomatoes, salt and grind to little coarse paste ( like in picture).
  5. Empty the contents in a bowl , in a pan heat oil followed by mustard , urad dal , chillies , curry leaves and saute till brown and add to ground chutney.
  6. Mix and serve .
NOTES :
  1. Always saute in low flame for even frying , frying in high flame will results in burning and also raw smell in chutney.
  2. Instead of tomatoes you can add tamarind too.
  3. In case if you are adding coconut , add it when grinding but it will alter the taste a bit.
     HAPPY COOKING!!!

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
