HORSEGRAM DAL POWDER / KOLLU PODI

Hi All,

KOLLU PODI / HORSEGRAM DAL POWDER !! Horse gram dal is one of the wonderful dal which holds lots and lots of benefits to us.It reduces blood cholesterol and also helps in reducing weight.
We make kollu podi , kollu gravy and also wet kollu podi .When prepared with correct ratio this dal tastes awesome.
I make this powder in batches and store them in airtight container for months ( refrigerated).
When i feel lazy to prepare sidedish for lunch this powder helps me in handy.
Hot rice with kollu podi and tsp of coconut oil tastes divine.
Try this powder in home with the below recipe,

INGREDIENTS :
Horse gram dal / Kollu – 1 cup.
Dry red chillies – 4 nos.
Garlic – 3 pods.
Curry leaves - a sprig.
Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp.
Salt – as required.

PREPARATION :
  1. Dry roast garlic till it starts spluttering ,remove from flame and keep it aside.

  2. Same way in low flame dry roast horse gram dal , dry red chillies , curry leaves separately one by one (till they change colour and aroma comes) and keep them aside to cool down.
  3. When the ingredients reach room temperature , grind them to little coarse powder along with salt and asafoetida.
  4. That's all! Serve the powder with a tsp of coconut oil / ghee , hot rice and enjoy.

NOTES :
  1. While roasting always keep the flame in low to enhance the flavour and also for even frying.
  2. Don't grind the powder too finely , little coarse tastes better.
  3. If you don't like coconut oil you can use ghee too.

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
