POMFRET TAWA FISH

Hi,
POMFRET TAWA FISH FRY! I have tasted this fish fry in Chennai beach , Full fish fried in tawa with lots of masala and served in Banana leaf. The dish itself will look very appealing and tempting , so as the taste 😊.
Now I made this fry with Pomfret fish ( Vavva) , though you can make with any flesh fish but pomfret is best for full fish tawa fry.
Yummy , spicy tawa fish fry recipe is below,
PREPARATION AND COOKING TIME : 2 Hours.
SERVINGS : 3 members.

INGREDIENTS :
Pomfret fish – 1/2 kg ( 3 pcs).
Curd – 4 tablespoon.
Chilli powder – 1/4 tsp ( optional – for colour).
Garam masala – 1 tsp.
Salt – 1/4 tsp.
Lemon juice – 1 tsp.
Butter / oil – 2 tsp + 5 tsp for shallow frying.
Onion wedges and lemon – few for serving.

TO MARINATE WITH FISH :
Lemon – 1 no.
Chilli powder – 1 1/2 tsp.
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
Butter / oil – 1 tsp.
Salt – 1 tsp.

TO GRIND TO FINE PASTE :
Ginger – 1” piece.
Garlic – 8 pods.
Dry red chillies – 3 nos.

METHOD :
  1. Wash and clean fish well. Make sharp , deep slits with knife. Make sure you don't cut the fish into pieces , just slits is enough for masala to blend well.
  2. Marinate the fish our marinating ingredients – lemon juice , chilli powder , turmeric powder , butter and salt. Apply the masala well inside the cuts too.
  3. Grind our grinding ingredients – ginger , garlic , red chillies to fine paste with very little water.
  4. In a bowl add curd , chilli powder ( optional) , garam masala , salt , lemon juice , ground paste, 2 tsp butter and mix.
  5. Now pour the above curd mix over the fish and rub well so that the masala blends well even within the slits.
  6. Refrigerate the marinated fish for 1 hour or more.
  7. Heat oil in a wide pan and place each fish piece gently in hot oil , shallow fry in low flame till fish roasts to golden brown.
  8. Now using spatula very carefully flip the fish and fry in other side too.
  9. When done remove from oil gently and serve hot with onions wedges and lemon.
    NOTES :
  1. Choose any full fish of your choice , but select small size fish so that you can easily fry it without breaking.
  2. Adjust chilli and salt as per your taste.
  3. Butter tastes better for frying but you can replace with vegetable oil too.
    Happy cooking!!

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
