DRY FISH GRAVY / DRY FISH IN TOMATOES / KARUVADU MASALA

 
Hi Everyone,
Have a great week ahead for everyone.
Today I tried dry fish and it came out to be great success for the first time.
These dry fishes are lying in my kitchen for past two weeks and whenever I cross it I was thinking what to do with it L , the odour of dry fish is something which  makes everyone to run away from it.So I made very simple dish with it.

SERVINGS : 2 MEMBERS

INGREDIENTS :

Sheer dry fish – 10 pcs.
Onion (big) – 2 nos
Tomato (medium size ) – 2
Onion -  2 nos.
Cumin / zeera - 1 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Corainder powder - 1/2 tsp.
Curry leaves - few
Gingelly oil - 2 tsp
 
PREPARATION :

1) Clean dry fish pieces with cold water well for atleast twice and then immerse it into hot water for 15 mins and drain the water.

2) In a pan add oil followed by cumin , when cumin starts spluttering add curry leaves , onions and fry till onions turns its colour.
                  

3) Then add tomatoes to pan and fry till mushy , when tomatoes are fried add chilli powder and coriander powder and fry for a minute , if tomatoes are too dry you can 1/4 glass of water too and mix well.

4) When the masala powders are blended well add the dry fish pieces to the pan and boil for 5 mins.

5) Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame , Serve hot.

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai.One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible.
