Utilizing leftover food is always a tedious task for me...I bang my head thinking how not to waste the leftover food.I make variety of dishes with leftover idli and one dish which is on top list and very very quick ,easy to make is this PODI IDLI UPMA.This is my husband's favorite so whenever I make idli , I will make few idlis extra and next day I will convert it into podi idli upma.
The recipe is so simple and here below is for your ref too,

Channa dal – 1/2 tsp.
Urad dal – 1/2 tsp.
Curry leaves – few.
Salt – a pinch.
Onion – 1 no ( big).
Idli Milagai podi – 3 tsp ( recipe link here).
Mustard – 1/8 tsp.
Coconut oil or ghee – 1 tsp.

METHOD :
  1. Refrigerate leftover idlis for minimum 2 to 3 hours ( overnight refrigeration is good). Then crumble them using your hands or even you can pulse them in food processor for few seconds.
  2. In a wide kadai heat 1 tsp ghee or coconut oil and add mustard , when mustard starts spluttering add urad dal , channa dal and saute in medium flame till golden brown.
  3. Add curry leaves , chopped onion and saute till onions turn translucent.
  4. Now add crumbled idlis to kadai , followed by idli podi and mix well in low flame till everything mixes well with crumbled idli.
  5. Check for salt and add a pinch if required ( as idli contains salt already ,add only if required).
  6. When done remove from flame and serve hot.
NOTES :
  1. Refrigerating idlis help us to crumble the idlis easily.
  2. Be generous in adding idli powder as it gives amazing flavour to upma.

KADAMBA / KANAVA MASALA /SQUID FISH CURRY

Hi, Sea has lot of creatures in it that we can cook and we were much more unaware of many . Squid fish is one among the yummy species which I was totally unaware even after coming to Chennai. One day in market I saw them and surprised that they are selling octopus ( it looked like that to me :)). Then I surfed in net and found actually they are squid ( kadamba / kanava) and not octopus , My friend Saranya cooked this gravy for us during her visit to our home .I copied the recipe from her and tried next week itself.Though the squid fish looks very weird the taste was so yummy and there is no fish odor in that.It just tasted like mutton. The cleaning part is little tricky but easy, I suggest once you finished cleaning dispose the waste immediately out of your house as the waste from squid fish is very smelly and also it starts leaving water .So dispose the waste of squid as quick as possible. Other than that the fish tastes heaven , spicy, yummy and very easy to cook. I have
